Small Mountain
Small Mountain offers breathtaking views of the city. The top of this mountain has an old, abandoned French lighthouse that was built in 1910 and crumbling fortifications from a time long gone.
Giant Jesus
A giant, 100 foot tall statue of Jesus was constructed above the back beach on a lower slope of Small Mountain in the mid 1970s. I am told there are steps inside that lead up to his shoulder and a great view. A similar statue of Mary is located on Big Mountain (Nui Lon) north of Front Beach.
Bach Dinh
Bach Dinh is a villa on the edge of the large mountain that presents nice views over the Front Beach (Bai Truoc). This mansion was built to house the rich and influential, now it is just a run-down building housing a museum, with cannon are display overlooking the harbor.
Back Beach
Back Beach is on the eastern side of Vung Tau and is the largest beach in town. I am told it gets busy on weekends, but we arrived on a weekday and it was almost deserted.

Sun and Beach
Relaxing on the beach. Just be sure to have a pair of cool aviators like my friend Brian to protect your eye balls from the equatorial sun.
Hon Ba Temple
Visible from Back Beach and the cliffs at the southern edge of the peninsula is scenic Hon Ba Temple, which sits a few hundred feet offshore on a small island. At low tide, you can walk across the rocks to this small temple.
Lang Ca Ong (Whale Temple)
Whale Temple is based on a legend that whales protect ships and their crews. Inside this temple are the bones of a huge whale on display in glass cases.
