Hanoi Kunming Overland Tour (#2303)

 

Day 1: Hanoi – Overnight Train to Lao Cai (no meals)

20h00: You will self arrange the transfer by taxi (we suggest you to ask the receptionist of hotel to call a good cab for you) to Hanoi train station (Tran Quy Cap street) for train to Laocai (Tourist Carriage, 4 persons sharing compartment with air-conditioning). The train departs approximate 2115 hours. Overnight trip

 

Day 2: Lao Cai – Sapa (B)

At approx. 05.20 early in the morning: Pick up at Lao Cai station on arrival by train from Hanoi. A scenic 38 km drive on winding roads up the mountains brings you to Sapa, approx. 1500 m above sea level. On clear days you can see the highest mountain of Vietnam, the Fansipan. Time free to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape & having breakfast at local restaurant
Continue a short drive by car brings you to the rim of a deep valley followed by a trekking which will take you to Lao Chai and Ta Van villages, home to Dzay and H’Mong minorities. Late afternoon stroll through the small alleys of the town centre.

Day 3: Sapa – Hekou – Jianshui (B)

Breakfast at hotel
Drive (no guide) downhill Sapa to Laocai/Hekou Sino- Vietnamese boarder
0900 hours Hanoi’s time (1000 hours, Beijing’s time), arrive Hekou & you pass the border, our guide greets and meet them there, transfer to Jianshui directly (3 hours drive), the cultural and economic center of southern Yunnan, visit the Swallow Cave, the largest karst cave in Asia, on arrival to Jianshui, walk in the ancient town and visiting the east tower gate, which is over 600 years old, even older than the Tian’anmen gate tower in Beijing!

Day 4: Jianshui (B/L)

Visit the Confucius Temple, the third largest one on China mainland (the biggest one is in Confucius hometown, Qufu of east China’s Shandong provinc, the 2nd biggest one is in Beijing), constructed in late 13th century in the Yuan Dynasty, over 700 years old. It has been renovated and extended for over 50 times since then. This temple survied in the ”culture revolution” which lasted for more than 10 years from 1966-1978. Pm visit the Tuanshan village out of Jianshui, local style architecture complex lies by water, the most famous one is the Zhang’s Garden. Finally on the way back visit the twin dragon bridge.

Day 5: Jianshui-Stone Forest-Kunming (B, L)

Am drive to the stone Forest (3 hours drive), the no.1 site in Yunnan. The stone forest is a typical geological phenomenon, 270 million years ago, this area was a vast expanse of sea, the movement of tectonic plates alerted the earth crust, causing the sea to recede and the limestone bottom to appear to forming land. Constant seeping of rain through the cracks in the limestone produced a group of great sculptures and shapes, all molded by nature. Drive to Kunming (2 hours), it is the capital city of south China’s Yunnan province, it is entitled ”the Spring City” due to the mild weather-the average temperature her is 18 Centigrade degrees, can be visited all year round.

Day 6: Kunming (B,L)

You will visit the Green Lake park, local people do morning exercises there, walk through the old town, where there’s a small flower and bird market, the west hill + tower gate which lies at the west suburb of Kunming, all representative sites in Kunming. If tiem permits,visit the Golden Temple, whose great hall is not made of gold but bronze as Yunnan is rich in bronze reserve for centries.

Day 7: Kunming – Departure (B)

Free at leisure then transfer to airport for flight back country, end of service.
