Day 2: Saigon – fullday sightseeing (B)

Have breakfast at hotel.
Today you will have full day to visit  attractive places in Saigon city as follow: Independence Palaces, War Remnants Museum, Saigon Post office & visit Saigon zoo

Your kids will also have more knowledge about Vietnam history

After breakfast at hotel, our tour guide will pick up your group at 8.30 AM to visit

+ Independence Palaces: a five-storey building with the basement housing a warren of tunnels, a war room and telecommunications centre. The war command room still has maps on its walls and period telecommunications equipment on display, whilst adjoining basement rooms feature war propaganda materials. Other areas of interest are the third floor featuring a card playing room, a fourth floor which once had a casino and was used for entertaining guests and a rooftop terrace with a heliport. The Reunification Palace entered the world history books in 1975 when a Vietnamese Air Force pilot (who was also a communist spy) flew an aircraft over the palace with an attempt to bomb it. Although no real damage was caused this was a significant step towards the fall of Saigon and the ending of the Vietnamese War.

+ War Remnants Museum: The ground floor of the museum is devoted to a collection of posters and photographs showing support for the antiwar movement internationally. This somewhat upbeat display provides a counterbalance to the horrors upstairs. You’ll also have the rare chance to see some of the experimental weapons used in the war, which were at one time military secrets, such as the flechette, an artillery shell filled with thousands of tiny darts.

+ Saigon Central Post office: Inside the Saigon Central Post office of special note are two painted maps that were created just after the post office was built, the first one located on the left side of the building is a map of Southern Vietnam and Cambodia titled Lignes telegraphiques du Sud Vietnam et Cambodge 1892 which translates to “Telegraphic lines of Southern Vietnam and Cambodia 1892”. The second map of greater Saigon is titled Saigon et ses environs 1892 that translates as “Saigon and its surroundings 1892”

In the afternoon, visit Saigon zoo. As one of the oldest zoos in the world, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden are famous not only with Vietnamese but also with foreign visitors. It is the home for many rare orchids, ornamental plants, and over a hundred species of mammals, reptiles and birds. Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden are the cultural places of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). It was ranked eighth among the oldest zoos in the world.

Day 3: Saigon – Cu Chi wildlife rescue station – Cu Chi tunnels (B)

In the morning, it takes about 2,5 hours on road to reach Cu Chi. On the way, stop at Wildlife rescue station: Teaching kindness and care towards animals is something important to expose our children and the work they do at the Chu Chi Wildlife Station is fabulous. Some animals you may see include bears, gibbons, wild cats, turtles and many species of birds.

Cu Chi tunnels: were used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. The tunnels provided them with hiding spots during combat, communication and supply routes, living quarters for many guerrilla fighters and so much more. The tunnel systems were of great importance to the Viet Cong in their resistance to American forces, and helped achieve ultimate military success. Learning about — and even crawling through — the tunnel systems they fought in, the clever booby traps they devised and the tactics that helped them to survive will leave you in awe
